Wow...what great creative energy! This was my 3rd Art Fest in Port Townsend WA. It is a amazing creative gathering produced by Teesha and Tracey Moore of Issaquah WA. You can find them at http://www.teeshamoore.com/. This class was taught by Lynn Perella. The class was Foreign Intrigue. We used an exotic photo and created a collage with paint and paper. What a fun class, and really enjoyed it.

Daniel Smith was our last stop before heading home. All in all it was a good day with my new owner. What adventures will we go on next?

We drove by Pioneer Square on our way to my owners favorite art store Daniel Smith.

We stopped in at Uptown Espresso for an iced vanilla latte. Luckily monster didn't like, so I got to drink it all!

We were hungry so we had some Pagliacci Pizza...yum. The monster decided he likie pizza!

This is a curvy hallway with amazing art on the wall. This hotel is very whimsical with lots of art...love it!

This is such an amazingly cool place. Kennedy School House is an actual school house renovated into hotel with a restaurant, many bars, theater, soaking pool and great artsy shopping area near by. The Alberta Street Neighborhood is just 8 blocks from hotel with fantastic galleries and restaurants.We had a great family mini vacation here. I want to go back without the kids sometime!

Every year in Seattle Fremont, the greatest place in the universe. Fremont has a Solstice Parade and festival. This year they had an Art Car display before the parade. I missed it but got this video to show the fabulous cars that were there.

Spent the day working on a tutorial

Spent the day yesterday learning so much from a tutorial by Blog Spoon Graphics: I created all my elements in Illustrator CS3 and then moved them into layers in Photoshop CS3. I learned so much about layers. I am a little rusty on Photoshop, but am now getting up to speed. I have so many other ideas I need to finish before I start school on Monday. That's right I'm going back to school. I need to finish my Associates degree and then I think I'm going into teaching. Really want to teach art in elementary school. Anyway need to go and get my books!

This piece is fabulous...didn't care for it until I found out that the dress was made out of romance novels. The top is created with crocheted roses. This would look amazing in the entry of my house. I didn't bother to look at the price, oh well. Guess I'll have to make one of my own! : )

My new favorite place in Renton WA, Common Ground Cupcakes. Not only do they have great cupcakes...they flavor their frosting, yum! They have great art on the walls. I've taken pictures of the murals that are on the walls. They also have local artists work displayed. Every excuse I get to go have a coffee and a cupcake I do it...life is short...eat cupcakes!!

I spent the day at the last Northwest Flower and Garden show yesterday. www.gardenshow.com. It was a gardening smorgasbord. There are fabulous display gardens and lots of art and craft vendors. It's amazing how much you could spend on your yard! I'm really excited to get started on my gardening this year. I'm going to have a vegetable garden. There is nothing like eating fresh veggies out of your own garden. In the picture above I'm holding an adorable felted carrot.

I created this at Obamicon.me, go try it yourself! I am feeling very hopeful we will have change, good or bad...it will be different than the last 8 years!!! Today was a day of service and I ran into a woman in the grocery store parking lot who had her car windows painted with "Maple Valley Food Bank". She went to this site and started her own volunteer project: www.mlkmobilization.org/america_serves. She mobilized 45 people who all met today at the food bank and made their donations, then went around collecting and buying more food for the needy. I was so thankful to see her because I so wanted to do something meaningful today. Unfortunately I didn't but I look forward to future days this year where I will do something for someone else! I did donate some money to this woman and hope it goes to good use.

Today is the end of 2008. I've had a very successful year in my personal life. I've meet some really great new friends, one is my running partner. We finished a half marathon together in October and joined a gym this December. I'm looking forward to being in great health in 2009. I've discovered a fabulous website to help you make new habits in your life. Once I have decided on a few I will post them here for all to see. zenhabits.

I'm a member of an Accountability group which has helped my stay on track with my freelance business goals. I for see great progress in my freelance businesses this year. "The Success Principles" by Jack Canfield has been a big player in our group. His website is: canfieldcoaching I plan to apply and revisit many of the principles in 2009.

I've eliminated some obstacles in my way towards a more successful business life, and hope to remove more in 2009.

This was our vacation with grandma and grandpa before the girls left for camp. We stopped in a cute town on the way to Port Townsend - Paulsbo. It is a Norwegian town with lots of bakeries and gift shops. We just had to put on the viking hats.

My two beautiful girls are at camp for the week. I will be picking them up this Saturday. I've tried not to miss them but I can't help it!! I did get a chance to spend some alone time with my husband. We spent time in Port Townsend of all places. The kids arrived at camp just as the grandparents were leaving for home. There is a documentary about Marla - "My Kid Could Paint That". I highly recommend this documentary...it really makes you think about art!!

This will be one of my canvas purses when I am finished. I don't think it will be as beautiful as Marla's work, but it is a good exercise.

Teatro ZinZanni - "A Suitcase Named Desire"

Just returned from a fantabulous 40th Birthday celebration for my friend Nancy. We went to a Teatro ZinZanni dinner theater extravaganzia. We ate a 5 course meal and enjoyed top of the line live entertainment. Highlights included; Opera singing, juggling, trapeze acrobatics, magic, and just pure fun! Nancy is a dear friend of mine. She has always organized parties for everyone she knows. It was her turn to enjoy a night planned for her!! Afterwards we went to a bar on lower Queen Anne and ran into Danny Devito. It turns out that his daughter is acting in a play in Seattle. Of course we don't have a picture to prove it but we all know it's true!! : )

Below is a work in progress - Wall Paper person for my Mother for Mothers Day. The image is of my grandmother who passed away. She was a very successful woman of her day. When I was a kid we visited her most Sundays on Vashon Island. Her beach house was full of art she created from beach shells, crabs and seaweed. I have very fond memories of growing up on the beach. This class was so fun!! I used my grab bag of stamps I bought at the Art Fest store. It was so good to meet Laurie Mika. She is terrific... so kind and giving of time and materials!! Art Fest PMC Bird Pendant Catherine Withrell

My second class was the PMC silver clay bird pendant. PMC is great fun...and very delicate! I ended up making the bird legs to thin and they broke. It was a happy accident since I am now the only one who has fun dangely legs. The clay was very soft and I learned that you shouldn't make such deep impressions if you are going to rivet on pieces. I certainly learned alot in this class. I can't wait to try this process on my own...just need a kiln and some clay. I ended up with some extra clay...I'll take some pictures of the charms I made later.

I am finally getting to update my blog after Art Fest. I had a great time sharing an Officers house with my old and new banana buddies! Art Fest this year was so incredible...I used every ounce of energy finishing all three of my projects. Last year I didn't finish each project, so I was determined to finish this year. When I got home I ended up with Art Fest flu for a week. It was worth it! I have 3 fantastic projects to be proud of. This is my wall paper person from Anahata Katkins class. I am such a fan of hers. This class really pushed me creatively and physically. If you want a workout tape your wallpaper to the floor. My legs were very sore the next day. I'm hoping to get this one framed and hang on the wall.

I had this idea to use some of a large roll of canvas I have siting in my garage. I saw these painted canvas purses that were really wonderful. So I decided to make some for my special friends for Art Fest. I have two more to make. One is a b/w theme and one is green and red. I can't wait to see how they turn out. Not sure what colors to give whom, I'm sure it will all work out. Art Fest is 3 more days away.

SNOW! Yes, that's right there is snow in Kent Washington, south of Seattle. Today the 5th day of Spring, March 26th. There is at least an 1/2 inch on the ground. I can't believe it, can you say global warming? Art Fest is only a week away...will there be snow?

It's Friday!!

I'm so glad it's Friday! I finished my 52 charms for a valentine swap on Tuesday and got them in the mail!! I lead two Girl Scout Meetings one on Tuesday and one on Thursday. I got called into work on Thursday and Friday. Today I ordered a Grande, (which I never do) non-fat, vanilla, latte and got to work. I was sitting at the desk at the physical therapy office I work at. I got a phone call and the entire Grande spilled onto my lap. It is fortunate to work at this office because they have shorts for their patients to wear. Of course I ended up having to wear some of these shorts. I don't shave my legs in the winter so I didn't want to leave my seat. It was an embarrassing day, but somewhat amusing.

I was just browsing some blogs and decided that my new years resolution will be to create some art every day. I like that one...saw it on my roomate from Artfest last years blog. Ciao for now!

Isn't this food beautiful. On New Years Day we went to some friends. My husband friend Ed married a great Japanese woman. She made all of this beautiful food. I tasted some of it, it's very interesting. The week before New Years Day the Japanese traditionally prepare 2 weeks or so worth of special food. Many hours/days are spend preparing the food. So on New Years day they invite family and friends to come over and they share their wonderful food.

Halloween, my absolute favorite holiday. I met my husband on Halloween. This is our sweet daughter Josie. She decided to be a Panda Bear for Halloween. Every time we went out shopping she wanted to change her mind and be a princess or cheer leader. I told to to stick to her guns. Her panda bear ended up winning a costume contest at the Zoo festival we had here in Seattle. I'm so glad her creativity was validated in this day and age.

Summer is winding down...the last lazy days of summer are approaching!! I need to organize my office/studio. It is something I hate to do!! My office/studio is the place to create, work, file my 2 girl scout troops stuff, keep all family files, keep soccer team files, and much more. The task seems overwhelming. If anyone has any ideas on how to start please share!!

I have so much I want to do and finish...Eek! I've applied for jobs I don't know if I will get. I'm taking an online course and I have volunteered to be an Art Docent for my 6th graders class. I actually love doing this but it takes away from me trying to earn a living as a freelancer. I also want to run a half marathon in November. Will I be able to fit this in too??? We'll back to the responsibilities of life.

I'm reminiscing about Art Fest 2007. This is a pictures of some wacky new friends I met. I had a fantastic time and can't wait for next year!! I'm dying to take classes from Anahata Katkin, Laurie Mika and Misty Mawn. I stayed in a dorm with some great people. The only problem with the dorm was the bathroom stalls. If you are short they are ok. If not your knees stick out from under the stall door.

We returned from vacation in early July from St. Louis MO. We were there for a family reunion. It was so hot...it was like walking into a steamy room. I missed the Northwest and the mild weather. Dick Tracy's House Centralia Washington

On our way home from Oregon we stopped in Centralia for Dinner. On our way to the Old Downtown area we saw this amazing collage house. It was full of recycled art. I had to get some pictures. We stopped and I walked up and the owner came out. I should have gotten his picture. He has been working on this house for 28 years. When we had dinner a few blocks from his house I asked the waitress if she knew about the owner. His name really is Dick Tracy. His wife is a local teacher. His house is a must see if you are ever pass through Centrailia Washington.

Here I sit at my computer...Creatively inspired and very tired. I just returned from my first and not last Art Fest. It was a life changing event for me. I expanded my creative comfort zone. And the best part was meeting some amazing people!! I unfortunately broke my camera when I was there so.. I don't have many pictures. I'm hoping my new friends will send them. I must return to my responsibilities...and fit in some time for creativity.

I'm working on some ATC's for Art Fest and this will be my part of my signature for the back of the cards. This is my first Art Fest. My deadline is looming...I've been procrastinating.

I obviously used the hand as my focal point. I love the fun and vibrant colors of a Dame Edna article in the August '06 Oprah issue. The medium: cut paper and marker. I was in a hurry because I wanted to post my first Inspire Me Thursday project.

I found this ad on the back of Rolling Stone. I love the hand with the words on it. I was inspired by another ad for the colors.

I received the fantastic Art Fest booklet in the mail on Friday. What a thrill! I'm so excited to be inspired by wonderful artist from around the country!!! I can't wait!!!
